Every day, scholars around the world face threats to their safety, their research, and their freedom to think, teach, and speak. Universities and other higher education institutions have a responsibility - not just to offer refuge, but to create real opportunities for these scholars to rebuild their careers and contribute to academic life.

On June 3d, 2025, in Brussels, join key academic leaders, experts, and at-risk scholars themselves for an essential conversation on how higher education institutions can effectively support at-risk scholars, foster their integration in a French-speaking academic environment, and uphold academic freedom in an increasingly challenging global landscape.

This event, co-organised by the members of the Scholars at Risk section in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation (CRef, ARES, ULB, UCLouvain, and ULiège), will offer inspiring insights, practical recommendations, and a space for meaningful exchange, culminating in a networking reception intended to build connections with peers and experts working at the forefront of academic freedom.

Programme highlights:

• Adapting support to crises: how can organisations and universities adapt their support mechanisms to the diverse and evolving crises faced by scholars at risk?
• Integrating scholars at risk in the French-speaking academic environment: what are the key barriers and good practices to the integration of displaced researchers in French-speaking institutions?
• Preserving academic freedom in partnerships: how can universities navigate the balance between international collaboration and ethical considerations?

Sensibilisation : Faire prendre conscience de la nécessité de l’économie circulaire en tant que réponse à la problématique de la surconsommation de ressources et à la production de déchets et découvrir des entreprises actives dans l’économie circulaire (au Circularium : Regglo, Freddy met Curry, Konligo, Batiterre, Sonian Wood, Pro Velo, Resortecs, …).

Mise en action : Travailler sur un cas concret (analyse d’une problématique rencontrée par l’entreprise (Loopipak) et proposition de solutions). Mobiliser des outils d’intelligence collective.

Le Réseau Profs en Transition a pour objet de mettre en lien les enseignants des Hautes écoles de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles qui sont concernés par la transition écologique et sociale de nos sociétés en profonde et rapide mutation. L’enjeu est de constituer une communauté d’apprentissage et de réflexion sur notre rôle d’enseignants dans une perspective de soutenabilité forte. Pour donner le ton et créer du lien, les porteurs du projet ont conçu une journée d’exception. La toute première rencontre du Réseau Profs en Transition a eu lieu à La Marlagne le 1er juin 2022. Au programme : des exposés, des partages, des expérimentations de pratiques innovantes…le tout dans un cadre verdoyant et une ambiance conviviale.

En partageant six grandes conférences liées aux thématiques du développement durable et de la transition écologique à l’ensemble des universités de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, ce projet vise trois objectifs majeurs :

• Sensibiliser très largement aux Objectifs de développement durable de l'Agenda mondial, en partageant un contenu de grande qualité et en le déclinant en formats attractifs pour toucher la jeune génération.
• Mettre en valeur les recherches universitaires en FWB en lien avec les thématiques abordées, en élaborant des capsules vidéos avec les chercheurs concernés.
• Créer/agrandir une communauté d'acteurs pour le développement durable dans les établissements d’enseignement supérieur en FWB qui se découvrent, se relient, échangent et collaborent plus encore.
