Since 2020, ARES has been organizing the Internationalisation School, an initiative launched by its International Relations Commission. Since 2025, the school has been co-led with Marie Clotuche, project manager at the International Relations Office of ULiège. This initiative is aimed at around thirty junior international relations officers from higher education institutions (HEIs) in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation (FWB). It aligns with ARES’s broader mission to support the internationalisation of HEIs by strengthening their institutional capacities. The two most recent editions of the school have also welcomed more experienced profiles to promote lifelong learning.
Beyond the growing professionalization of international teams within universities, university colleges, schools of arts, and adult education institutions, global trends and forces are driving continuous evolution in international practices and activities. These now go beyond traditional areas such as mobility and international cooperation, expanding into curriculum internationalisation, global citizenship, virtual and hybrid mobility, and internationalisation at home. It is therefore essential that ARES continues to support these developments.
Over the course of three days, numerous Belgian and international speakers share their expertise and experiences on the changes and challenges facing institutions. Topics covered have included digitalisation, sustainable development, internationalisation at home, and crisis management strategies. Collective intelligence tools are also used to encourage reflective approaches and facilitate exchanges among participants.
