French-English Glossary

In the absence of any regulatory framework for translating key higher education terms—particularly those found in the “Paysage” decree—it has become clear that the English translation of commonly used terms varies from one institution to another. This inconsistency can lead to confusion among non-French-speaking audiences browsing the various websites and informational materials of higher education institutions in the FWB, and may ultimately hinder the promotion, attractiveness, and visibility of our higher education system abroad.

This glossary serves as a reference tool. It is by no means mandatory for higher education institutions, which are encouraged to consult, use, and refer to it when, for example, developing the English version of their website or any other material intended for a non-French-speaking audience.
