Commission for International Cooperation
The work of the Commission for International Cooperation (CCI) guides the strategic management of ARES’s development cooperation mission. It oversees the administrative, financial, and technical management of capacity-building programs promoted by ARES in developing countries in the fields of research and higher education. These programs are carried out in partnership with higher education institutions in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and their counterparts in the Global South.
As a partner of Belgian development cooperation, ARES supports partnerships between higher education institutions in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and institutions in 18 countries in the Global South. These partnerships aim to strengthen their missions in education, research, and community service, as well as their role as development actors.
This commission serves as the preparatory and executive body for ARES decisions in this area of responsibility. Specifically, it is tasked with defining and implementing a shared development cooperation policy, which it also manages and promotes to public authorities and other development cooperation stakeholders.
It relies on the work of a preparatory bureau and other specific bodies (working groups, activity steering groups, etc.), as well as on the staff of the ARES Directorate for International Cooperation. This directorate is primarily responsible for preparing the commission’s work, coordinating and supervising the administrative, financial, and technical aspects of activities carried out by institutions and project leaders, and ensuring their scientific implementation and oversight.
